Greek energy minister Tina Birbili said that Zervos' appointment will “reflect the ministry’s new political directions”, to raise the country’s renewable energy output. Greece has ambitious plans to produce 20% of its energy from green sources by 2020, up from the current level of 3%.

Christian Kjaer, chief executive of the EWEA , welcomed the appointment. “It will be a significant challenge to turn PPC into a European leader in wind energy and other renewables.
