Chief executive Ditlev Engel said that the turbine “is of epic proportions to address energy challenges of a similar dimension.” The machine is geared turbine with 80m rotors blades, a swept area of 21.124m2 and a tip height of 187m. Engel said that the development of the turbine constitutes “the single largest R&D investment in ever,” for Vestas, adding “we are determined to lead the offshore industry.”
