One month before the auction, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) will announce exactly how many allowances will be auctioned. In total, the UK plans to auction 25 million allowances during 2009.
In November 2008, the UK held the world’s first-ever auction of carbon credits, selling four million allowances for more than £54m ($74m), or around £13.60 per allowance.
