The private members bill was introduced by Conservative MP Peter Luff, who has been working with residents opposed to wind turbines at Lenchwick near Worcester.

The bill is not being officially supported by the Conservative Party, although it is expected to attract some support from MPs across the three main parties.

Liberal Democrat MP Martin Horwood said the bill would have the “perverse” result of increasing pressure on rural areas to accept wind farm projects because turbines would no longer be able to be built in urban environments.
