The CBI’s statement comes after wholesale natural gas prices in the UK soared in response to the suspension of Russian supplies to Europe through the Ukraine because of the ongoing dispute between the two countries over prices and transport tariffs.
"The current disruption to gas supplies in Europe underlines the importance of taking urgent action to increase our energy security,” said CBI Deputy Director-General John Cridland.
