In a fiery press conference before introducing the Electricity Market Reform (EMR) white paper to the House of Commons, Huhne argued that in a world of rising and volatile fossil-fuel costs, adding dozens of gigawatts of renewables capacity will be “more advantageous” to consumers than the status quo.
The EMR package is intended to dramatically rewrite the rules governing the electricity market in order to put the UK on a path to meet its legally binding carbon targets.
