However the GIB will not be able to issue bonds to raise additional finance until 2015-16, when government borrowing is set to begin to fall as a proportion of GDP, Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne said in his budget statement to parliament.
“Government investment alongside private finance should mean that there is in the region of an additional, £18 billion of investment in green infrastructure by 2014-15 as a result of the GIB,” the Treasury says.
