The proposals are part of a new policy paper on the party’s plans for a Low Carbon Economy that was published on 16 January. Conservative Leader David Cameron says that the new grid is the key to increasing the UK’s energy diversity and reducing dependence on imported Russian gas and Middle Eastern oil. “North Sea reserves are depleting and we are now net importers of gas,” says Cameron.
UK Conservatives pledge support for smart power grid
Britain’s Conservative Party plans to invest around £1bn on building a new “smart grid” which would facilitate the use of more renewable power if it forms the next government.
