Expected to cost €1.5-€2bn ($1.96-$2.6bn), the high-voltage direct current interconnector – which is using the working name of GerNor – would run for 500-600km between two as-yet-unspecified connection points.
The offshore line is foreseen as an export route for wind and solar power from Germany to Norway, with the latter sending its surplus hydropower into Europe during low-production times in Germany.
