Particularly, the new study led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said that future increases of carbon dioxide will cause longer droughts and rising sea levels as rain fall levels diminish and ice glaciers melt.

The predicted dry spells and rising sea levels could persist for up to 1,000 years even if carbon dioxide emissions “are completely stopped.”

Said NOAA senior scientist Susan Solomon: “Our study convinced us that current choices regarding carbon dioxide emissions will have legacies that will irreversibly change the planet.”
