The Kargi hydropower station will have an annual generation of 467 GWh – enough to provide electricity for 150,000 Turkish homes.

Statkraft acquired a project portfolio in Turkey in June 2009. It says Turkey is Europe’s biggest market for new hydropower.

The planned Kargi hydropower plant will be located in the Corum province, northeast of the Turkish capital Ankara.

"Constructing the Kargi hydropower plant gives Statkraft a firm foothold in Turkey, a market with high economic growth, increasing energy needs and a major hydropower potential," says Statkraft’s Øistein Andresen, executive vice president in charge of international hydropower.
