EPIA says the global solar PV market grew by 5.5 gigawatts (GW) in 2008, compared to 2.4 GW in 2007. Total installed capacity is now around 15 GW, EPIA said.
Spain represented almost half of all new installations in 2008, with about 2.5 GW in new capacity, followed by Germany with 1.5 GW. The spectacular growth in the Spanish market was sparked by a very generous feed in tariff regime for projects registering by September 2008, which led to a much higher than expected level of new installations.
