The company, which produces thin film photovoltaic solar (PV) modules using silicon-free Copper, Indium and Selenium (CIS) technology says that the new plant will bring its total annual production capacity to around 1 GW.

Showa Shell Solar says it will purchase a factory owned by Hitachi Plasma Display in Kunitomi-cho, Higashimorokata-gun, Miyazaki Prefecture, and install its equipment there to “quickly construct the new plant” which will begin operations in 2011.
