Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger said that the EU needs to spend around €1tn over 10 years to construct Europe wide gas and electricity networks in order to “Europeanise” energy policy and protect countries from supply disruptions, like those caused by disputes between Russia and the Ukraine over natural gas prices.
"To have an efficient, competitive and low-carbon economy we have to Europeanise our energy policy and focus on a few, but pressing, priorities,” says Oettinger.
