“Renewable energy can play a central role in reducing CO2 emissions and diversifying energy supplies but only if strong and sustained support is made available,” says IEA executive director Nobuo Tanaka.
In the IEA’s just released New Policies scenario, which has replaced the much criticised Reference Scenario as its benchmark model, annual government support for renewables increases from $57bn in 2009 to $205bn in 2035.
