The US Energy Department (DOE) announced Friday a “provisional agreement” with the FutureGen Alliance, backed by a group of utilities, to move forward on the effort, which was dropped by the Bush Administration last year.
President Barrack Obama, formerly a senator representing Illinois, where the project would be sited, supports the project. His energy secretary, Steven Chu, calls Friday’s agreement “an important step forward.”
