Approval from the European Commission's (EC) competition watchdogs was the last obstacle in the way of the GIB opening its doors for business by the end of the year.

The GIB is intended to help kick-start investment in major low-carbon projects in the UK – and has already named offshore wind as one of its first priority areas.
