A raft of developing countries have expressed interest in seeing Irena centred in the United Arab Emirates, saying it would be a symbolically significant way of promoting renewable energy in developing countries around the world.
In the past week, officials from Singapore, Vietnam, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal have all thrown their weight behind Abu Dhabi’s bid. Indonesia, which says it is in discussions to join Irena, has also leant its support.
