The Manila-based organisation’s project lending currently totals around $7bn a year, with per-project funding typically in the range of $100m.
Among the ADB’s current clean-energy investments are wind farms in China and India; hydropower schemes in Bhutan and Vietnam; a biomass power plant in Thailand; and a power-transmission enhancement project in Azerbaijan.
“While $2bn annually is a significant commitment, this represents only a fraction of the region’s financing needs in the area of clean energy,” says ADB President Haruhiko Kuroda.
