“Any market we go into, we go into seriously, and that means being one of the top three,” says Burgin.
“We are an acquisitive company, so making further purchases could be a part of getting to a top-three spot.”
Alstom took over Spanish turbine manufacturer Ecotècnia in 2007 for €350m ($492m). It produces its European turbines from a plant near Barcelona, is building a US manufacturing facility, and plans to build a factory in Bahia, northeastern Brazil.
