AWS – which employs just 14 people, mostly engineers – is focused on developing its AWS-III multi-megawatt wave generator.
The French multinational says the Scottish investment is part of the development of its recently-created Alstom Ocean business unit, which has so far concentrated on tidal energy and offshore wind.
It ran the rule over a range of wave-energy technologies before settling on AWS.
