Acciona starts up Oklahoma Red Hills wind farm

Spanish energy giant Acciona has started operating its 123-megawatt (MW) Red Hills wind park in Oklahoma to supply power to the Western Farmers Electric Co-operative (WFEC) under a long-term supply contract.

The wind farm has 82 1.5 megawatt (MW) Acciona Windpower turbines and is located in Roger Mills and Cluster counties in western Oklahoma. WFEC supplies electricity to most of rural Oklahoma, including customers like the Altus US Air Force Base.

Acciona Energy North America's chief executive, Pete Duprey, says: “Oklahoma is known for its oil and natural gas reserves, but it is also becoming known for its vast capacity for renewable energy.”
