Under the Nautilus banner, vessel designer Astilleros de Murueta, engineering consultancyTamoin, electrical specialist Velatia, mooring line-maker Vicinay and research and development centre Tecnalia will focus on developing semisubmersible foundations for floating wind turbines.
The group plans a pilot testing programme of a flagship unit next year, with thetarget of starting up commercial serial production of its platforms by 2016.
The current Nautilus concept, designed for water depths greater than 60 metres, would accommodate 5MW wind turbines, but the objective is to upscale the semisub for 10MW machines, according to the consortium.
