The Basque government’s renewable energy Etorgai grant, which boosts the €8.5m ($11.1m) Uhindar project launched last year, will underpin installation of a pilot development of piston-pump-style wave energy converters (WECs) built around US rotating equipment supplier Dresser-Rand’s HydroAir variable-radius turbines.
“Ocean energy has been considered by the Basque government as a key development sector for the Basque Country; several companies located [here] are qualified to take part in this business by supplying components or providing engineering service,” says Dresser-Rand.
