The move will lower REC’s annual polysilicon capacity by 2,400 metric tonnes (MT) during the shut-down, affecting 46 jobs at its plant in Moses Lake, Washington state.

REC says will produce around 20,000MT of polysilicon this year based on its propriety fluidized bed reactor (FBR) technology – compared to the roughly 21,500MT it turned out in total last year.

In the past, REC has used two methods for producing polysilicon.
