The Canadian province of Alberta awarded contracts to five wind projects totalling 763MW at a weighted-average price of C$39 ($29) per MWh in its latest renewables procurement, underscoring the transformation of the oil-centric western province into one of the hottest and most competitive wind markets in North America.

The biggest winners were Potentia Renewables, TransAlta and EDF Renewables, which between them will build 715MW of new wind farms across the province.
