Hochtief helped to stage the drill – involving more than 80 people and a rescue helicopter – at the Global Tech 1 offshore wind project in the German North Sea.

The simulation involved a badly injured worker being plucked from the Hochtief jack-up vessel Thor, which is installing the 400MW plant’s 80 Areva wind turbines some 180km off Bremerhaven.

The ‘patient’ – a remote-controlled crash test dummy – was given appropriate first aid on board then treated within an hour by a specialist paramedic who arrived by helicopter, it said.

The
