In a statement the turbine manufacturer acknowledged there have been cases of illness in employees working with chemicals in its blade manufacturing processes – but insisted it has taken the initiative on addressing the issue, and has robust staff protection practices in place.
Danish broadcaster DR News reported data from the National Board of Industrial Injuries in Denmark logging 84 cases in which Vestas employees have become ill from working with harmful substances since 2005.
