London: Kenya's 300MW Lake Turkana project, Africa's first utility-scale wind farm, will enter construction by the end of the year, according to the developer. The news is a rapid reversal from two weeks ago, when developer Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) claimed construction would be pushed back until at least late 2013 due to a lack of government support.
LTWP, a subsidiary of Dutch wind developer KP&P, says it has received a letter of support from Nairobi that will allow it to reach financial closure of the €617m ($869m) project within a few months and commence construction by December..
