Westar owns 149MW of capacity at its Central Plains and Flat Ridge farms and has previous power-purchase agreements for 146MW of wind energy. It also buys about 6MW of electricity produced using landfill gas.
Westar to add 369MW of Kansas wind by 2013
Westar Energy, the largest investor-owned electricity utility in Kansas, plans to add 369MW of wind energy to its renewables portfolio by the end of 2012. The utility has filed for regulatory approval with the Kansas Corporation Commission for two proposed long-term power-purchase agreements. They are contingent on final negotiations and respective board approvals.
