The consensus forecast is that China will install 16GW next year and 17.5GW in 2012. HSBC predicts that grid restraints will limit it to 13-15GW per year, but it estimates a total capacity of 225GW by 2020, compared to a likely official target of 150GW.
Uncertain future for developers without CDM revenue
With the clock ticking towards the expiry of the Kyoto Protocol, Chinese wind-power developers are facing up to a future without the UN's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), which is a major source of revenue to them. The fact that no agreement was reached on extending Kyoto at the Canc ú -talks is worrying for Chinese private-sector developers.
