The kingdom is also building several small-scale renewables projects, particularly biomass and solar systems of 5-8MW, to meet the needs of villages, communities and towns. "[These] projects provide stability for the overall grid system, as they can reduce the amount of electricity needed to move across the country," Purka adds.
Thailand's lead in renewables is set to continue
Thailand has set the quickest pace in developing renewables among Southeast Asian countries, and can continue to lead the way, claims an official at the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Based on projects that are under construction, and a set of popular government policies, more growth is within sight for Thailand, according to Don Purka, senior investment specialist at the ADB.
