Siemens erected two of its 6MW SWT-6.0-120 direct-drive turbines at Dong Energy’s Gunfleet Sands 3 site in January, putting it clearly in the lead in deploying new turbines for the UK’s giant Round 3 projects.
The turbine was first installed onshore in 2011 at the Høvsøre test site in Denmark, while a 6MW prototype with a 154-metre-diameter rotor was erected last year at the new Danish national test centre at Østerild.
