France's GDF Suez is building one of two big hydropower plants in Panama, which will probably be the last, as the small country's hydro potential is essentially tapped. Panama lacks reservoir potential, and many rivers are in environmentally sensitive areas. In fact, the 118MW Dos Mares project is not really a single facility but a cluster of three plants along a diverted canal, the best way the company found to generate enough power to make its investment worthwhile.
The
