Like many players in global PV manufacturing, Motech struggled last year with excess inventory and falling prices. It received a $193m investment from Taiwan Semicon ductor Manufacturing Company in December, and will pay $4.5m for the Newark plant, which has 75 employees, according to the Taipei Times newspaper. The transaction is expected to close early this month. GE acquired the factory in 2004 from AstroPower.
