Seattle: I ndependence Wind is taking a novel approach to winning support for a project in Roxbury, Maine: it is giving every household free electricity.. It appears to be the first such arrangement in the US, costing the 50.6MW Record Hill project ( see story, right ), at current rates, nearly $3.5m over 20 years.
"We wanted to make the people in Roxbury feel like they were participants in this project," Independence president Rob Gardiner tells Recharge .
