Suzlon says it is tendering for 800MW of wind projects in South Africa.

It has established an office in Johannesburg to oversee the effort. Silas Zimu - who formerly held senior roles with state-owned utility Eskom, and is currently managing director at Johannesburg's distribution system operator - will be brought in as head of Suzlon's bureau.

Chairman Tulsi Tanti says the announcement "underscores our belief that South Africa has a huge wind potential, along with our intention to play a major role in bringing that to fruition".
