London: Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) plans to build Scotland's first test facility for offshore wind turbines, as manufacturers race to put prototypes through their paces in advance of Round 3. The three-turbine test range will be built onshore near Clydeport's site at Hunterston terminal, North Ayrshire. The facility will run in conjunction with SSE's renewables engineering centre in Glasgow, with the two locations linked via the Firth of Clyde in west Scotland.
