London: The Scottish government has approved a 10MW tidal array being developed by ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) in the Sound of Islay that uses ten Hammerfest Strøm HS1000 turbines.. Although the UK's Crown Estate has already leased out 11 zones with 1.6GW of capacity in the Pentland Firth and Orkneys for marine renewables projects, the Sound of Islay array is the first to be approved in waters governed solely by the Scottish government.
