The political battle in the US over global warming between those with fossil-fuel interests in their states and those touting a green-energy revolution has led to skirmishes in the canteens. The Democrats had moved to "green" the Capitol by requiring that the food vendor for the three main cafeterias in the House of Representatives provide compostable cups and utensils. But the newly empowered House Republicans have ended the scheme, and plastic forks and polystyrene cups have returned.
