The project is part of an NRG Solar portfolio in excess of 1.1GW. In the past two months, it has announced investments of up to $300m in BrightSource Energy's 392MW Ivanpah, which is expected to be the world's largest solar-thermal plant; and up to $450m in the 250MW California Valley Solar Ranch, developed by SunPower.
NRG foray into PV development should be up and running in 2011
After recent equity investments in a pair of high-profile solar projects, NRG Energy is building one of its own.. The solar subsidiary of the US energy-generation company says crews will break ground before the end of the year on the 20MW Roadrunner, which is expected to be the second-largest PV facility in New Mexico.. Output from the plant will be sold to El Paso Electric for 20 years under a power-purchase agreement.
