She says that states in the regional transmission organisation's operating territory have mandates that require about 25GW of clean energy by 2025. About one third of that amount is on line or being planned or built. Additional power could be needed if tougher pollution regulations force retirement of older coal plants, she adds.
Midwest agrees $1.2bn plan to boost efficiency and reliability
Grid operator Midwest ISO has approved a $1.2bn plan to expand transmission capacity, efficiency and reliability over the next decade, which will help 13 states and Manitoba province in Canada meet their renewable-energy targets. Wind and hydro provide 9.3% of the power used by Midwest ISO members, which have a combined 146GW of electricity-generating capacity.
