Japan's wind industry apparently withstood the recent earthquake and tsunami without damage - even the Kamisu semi-offshore wind farm, which is about 300km from the quake's epicentre.. The leader of the country's wind-power associations, Yoshinori Ueda, says most turbines are fully operational, and electricity companies have asked operators to help make up for power shortages in the east.

Japan's largest wind farm operator, Eurus Energy, a subsidiary of Tokyo Electric, which operates the Fukushima nuclear plant, reported soon after the quake that 64% of its 175MW wind capacity was in operation, with the rest stopped due to grid failure.
