Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond may well be the most unambiguous and full-throated supporter of renewables among world leaders. Since taking the reins in 2007, Salmond has spoken so often and unabashedly in favour of renewables that his comments have lost nearly all meaning for the sector - although they are always nice to hear.

What is less well known is that he is equally vociferous in his opposition to nuclear power, which currently provides more than half of Scotland's electricity..
