Amin says he has two targets for 2011: one is to address the "erroneous debate" on the high cost of renewables, citing the $557bn a year in subsidies received by fossil-fuel industries versus the $50bn going to renewables; the other is to develop a framework for renewable-energy planning.
Irena stand-in wants top job permanently
The interim director-general of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), Adnan Amin, will seek the permanent post in April.. Amin, a Kenyan, took over the interim position at the head of the organisation in October, when predecessor Hélène Pelosse resigned. The Kenyan prime minister is supporting Amin's candidacy.
