The Imperial Irrigation District (IID) is doing all it can to advance renewable energy in its own backyard, going so far as to oppose development that could enable competing projects elsewhere.
IID directors have voiced opposition to Sempra Generation's proposed cross-border transmission line to bring electricity from its planned Energía Sierra Juárez wind project in Baja California, Mexico, to the California grid, on the grounds that it could cost jobs in IID's territory.
