Developers meeting in Wellington for the annual wind-energy conference faced a raft of uncertainties. Significant doubts over carbon pricing and an emissions trading scheme, and low wholesale electricity prices - not to mention stiff competition from the country's dominant hydropower and newer geothermal projects - are hampering projections.. But a report commissioned by the New Zealand Wind Energy Association finds that the high quality of the country's wind resources might just prove to be the sector's saving grace.
