Gamesa says it is working with Northrop to adapt its FlexiFit crane for offshore use, which, if successful, could dramatically lower operations and maintenance costs. The crane, which was created for the G10X-4.5MW onshore platform, attaches to the nacelle of a wind turbine, where it can be used to remove and replace the components inside. The crane is small enough to be transported in a standard truck.
