India's telecom infrastructure companies are said to be on the verge of opening up a business avenue worth over $1bn for clean-energy equipment makers. Firms including Indus Towers, American Tower Company, GTL and Viom Networks, which together operate more than 350,000 towers across India, are conducting tests on solar-, wind- and biodiesel-powered equipment.
The towers currently use more than two billion litres of diesel a year, says regulator Trai.
