The RAM should be a boon for mid-sized solar PV projects, as it allows them to avoid or minimise many of the environmental, transmission and financing hurdles that come with utility-scale plans.
California help for mid-sized projects
California will proceed with a unique procurement process for mid-sized green-energy projects known as a Renewable Auction Mechanism (RAM). The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has unanimously approved the programme, about 18 months after it first took shape. The RAM is meant to encourage and streamline the development and procurement of renewable energy from projects in the 2-20MW range.
